Yemen
Cradle of Arabia at war — travel advised against, memory of a unique heritage
Yemen is one of the oldest cradles of civilisation in the Arab world, land of the Queen of Sheba, of mud-brick architecture and of the mythical island of Socotra. But in 2026 the country remains gripped by a major armed conflict and a severe humanitarian crisis: governments worldwide formally advise against all travel to Yemen. This guide is therefore a cultural and reference resource, not an invitation to go. For a Cameroonian traveller, Yemen can only be a deferred dream: one remembers the UNESCO-listed old city of Sana'a, the mud skyscrapers of Shibam (the 'Manhattan of the desert') and the otherworldly biodiversity of Socotra, while hoping for safer days.

The visa, step by step

Good to know
- •Active armed conflict in 2026: all travel is formally advised against (mortal risk, kidnappings, mines, strikes).
- •No travel insurance or consular assistance normally covers Yemen.
- •Visa section provided as cultural reference only, not as a practical travel guide.
