Taiwan
Night markets, mountains and modernity
Taiwan packs everything dreamy about Asia onto one island: an ultra-modern capital bristling with skyscrapers, legendary night markets, temples thick with incense, mountains cloaked in tea plantations and dizzying marble gorges. For a Cameroonian traveller it is a safe, clean and astonishingly welcoming destination, where you eat divinely for a few dollars. The high-speed train links north and south in two hours, and Taiwanese hospitality is reputed among the warmest on the continent.
