Slovakia
Carpathians, castles and a quiet Danube
Often overshadowed by its neighbours, Slovakia is a Central European gem: a compact medieval capital on the Danube, the jagged peaks of the High Tatras, UNESCO wooden villages and hundreds of castles. For a Cameroonian traveller it is an affordable Schengen gateway, perfect for mixing city and big nature in a week. Bratislava is easily walked, and trains link smoothly to Vienna, Budapest and the northern mountains. A safe, green country that is surprisingly cheap for Europe.
