Paraguay
South America's best-kept secret
Paraguay is authentic, crowd-free South America. A bilingual Spanish-Guarani nation, it offers a laid-back colonial capital on the river, UNESCO-listed Jesuit missions and the vast Chaco wilderness. For a Cameroonian traveller it is a long-haul but surprisingly affordable destination once you land, ideal for those after warm human connection rather than checklist sights. Tereré (iced yerba mate) is shared all day long and sets the social rhythm.
