Niger
The authentic Sahel, between Sahara dunes and the Niger River
Niger is an off-the-beaten-path Sahelian destination where the Sahara Desert meets the Niger River and traditional Tuareg and Hausa villages. For a Cameroonian traveller, it is a culturally accessible regional neighbour, with colourful markets, leather and silver crafts, and legendary hospitality. Niamey, the riverside capital, offers a renowned national museum and beautiful sunsets. Be aware, though: the security situation is unstable in several regions, and Cameroonians need a visa. A destination for informed, well-prepared travellers.
