Kiribati
The end of the world: atolls, WWII history and the date line.
Kiribati is one of the most remote destinations on the planet: 33 atolls scattered across the equator and the date line, the only country straddling all four hemispheres. In South Tarawa, you dive the wrecks and bunkers of the bloody Battle of Tarawa (1943), fish in turquoise lagoons and share the daily life of a preserved Micronesian culture. The trip from Cameroon is a marathon (via Dubai/Doha then Brisbane or Nadi/Fiji), but entry is simple: no visa, a free visitor permit on arrival.
The visa, step by step
How to apply
No prior steps: a visitor permit is issued free on arrival at Bonriki airport (Tarawa), on presentation of the passport, return ticket and proof of accommodation.

Good to know
- •Visa-free / free permit on arrival regime; extension possible on site.
- •Air links are rare (Fiji Airways via Nadi, Nauru Airlines via Brisbane): check flights before booking.
