Hungary
The queen of the Danube and her ancient baths
Budapest is one of Europe's most beautiful capitals and stays surprisingly affordable for a traveller from Douala. The city splits between the hills of Buda and lively Pest, linked by floodlit bridges over the Danube. You soak in hot thermal baths even in winter, dine for a few dollars and walk through dense history of castles, synagogues and grand cafes. With its warm atmosphere and one-of-a-kind ruin bars, Hungary serves up the best of Central Europe without draining your wallet.
