Croatia
The Adriatic pearl wrapped in golden walls
Croatia is the Mediterranean you dream about from Douala: impossibly clear turquoise water, white-stone old towns and islands as far as the eye can see. UNESCO-listed Dubrovnik unfurls its ramparts above the sea, while Split blends Roman ruins with buzzing terraces. For a Cameroonian it feels like another world yet stays manageable: short distances, genuine safety and grilled-fish cooking that echoes home braised dishes. Expect a connecting flight through Europe and a Schengen visa, but the payoff is well worth the effort.

How to apply
Croatia is part of the Schengen area, so apply for a short-stay Schengen (type C) visa at the competent consulate. There is no Croatian embassy in Yaounde, so processing usually runs through a regional consulate or visa center. Book an appointment, assemble the file and attend for biometrics.
Required documents
- Passport valid 3 months beyond return, with 2 blank pages
- Completed and signed Schengen application form
- Recent biometric passport photos
- Round-trip flight and hotel bookings
- Schengen travel insurance (€30,000 cover) and proof of funds
Good to know
- •Apply at the country where you will spend the most nights
- •Book biometrics early; summer slots fill fast
- •A valid Schengen visa from another country also lets you enter Croatia
