Costa Rica
Pura vida between volcanoes and two oceans
Costa Rica packs 6% of the world's biodiversity into a territory the size of a quarter of Cameroon. Monkeys, sloths, smoking volcanoes and beaches on both coasts: it's an ecotourism paradise. The visa is tough for a Cameroonian passport (a 'restricted' nationality), but the country rewards the patient with its gentle way of life.

The visa, step by step
How to apply
Cameroonian passports fall under Group 4 (restricted visa): the application must be approved by Costa Rica's Restricted Visa Commission before a consulate issues the visa. File at the competent consulate (no embassy in Cameroon).
Required documents
- Passport valid 6 months (180 days)
- Application form and photos
- Yellow fever vaccination certificate (mandatory)
- Proof of funds and reservations
- Police clearance and a letter explaining the trip
Good to know
- •'Restricted' nationality: Commission approval is mandatory and lengthy.
- •The yellow fever vaccine must be under 10 days old before entry for travellers from Cameroon.
- •A valid US or Schengen visa can sometimes ease entry — check current rules.
