Central African Republic
Visa-free CEMAC neighbour — but a serious security crisis outside Bangui.
CAR is a direct neighbour of Cameroon and a CEMAC member: just like Gabon or Chad, Cameroonians travel here visa-free with a biometric passport. Bangui, set on the Ubangi River, keeps a riverside charm. But let's be honest: the country is going through a deep security crisis. Armed groups control vast areas outside the capital, where kidnappings and violence are common. Bangui is calmer but can deteriorate quickly. Almost all governments advise against all travel.
The visa, step by step
How to apply
No prior paperwork: free entry for CEMAC nationals holding a valid biometric passport. Show your passport and yellow fever certificate on arrival.
Required documents
- Valid biometric passport
- Yellow fever certificate (mandatory)
- Return ticket
Good to know
- •Cameroon and CAR are CEMAC members: free movement is effective for biometric passport holders (like Gabon/Chad).
- •Being visa-free does not reduce the risk: there is a major security crisis outside Bangui.
- •Curfews and movement restrictions are possible at any time.
