Bulgaria
Mountains, monasteries and Europe on a budget
Bulgaria is arguably the most affordable country in the European Union, a well-kept secret for the Cameroonian traveler dreaming of Europe without Swiss or French prices. Sofia, the capital, blends golden Orthodox domes, Roman ruins visible under glass pavements and trendy cafés. Beyond the city you'll find golden Black Sea beaches, ski resorts in the Balkans and the Rila Monastery tucked in the mountains. For a Cameroonian the challenge is the Schengen visa, but once there your money stretches far further than anywhere else in Europe.
