Bangladesh
Delta of tigers, tea and the world's longest beach
The most densely populated country on Earth, Bangladesh remains one of Asia's last great secrets: the Sundarbans mangroves where the Bengal tiger prowls, Cox's Bazar and its 120 km of unbroken beach, the tea hills of Srimangal and the fascinating chaos of Old Dhaka. Authentic, very cheap and legendarily hospitable, it's an intense adventure for the curious Cameroonian traveler.
The visa, step by step
How to apply
Visa-on-arrival at Dhaka airport (Hazrat Shahjalal) is at the immigration officer's discretion and not guaranteed for all passports. For Cameroonians, the safest route is to obtain a visa in advance from the Bangladesh High Commission in Abuja (Nigeria) or via the online portal, presenting a hotel booking and itinerary.
Required documents
- Cameroonian passport valid at least 6 months beyond arrival
- Hotel booking and travel itinerary
- Return / onward ticket
- Around USD 50 in cash (payment in USD only)
- Proof of sufficient funds
Good to know
- •Visa-on-arrival is a privilege, not a right: it depends on the officer's decision and isn't automatic for African passports. Secure a visa in advance if possible.
- •Payment is in cash, US dollars only, at a bank counter inside the airport.
- •Have a confirmed hotel booking and a written itinerary ready: they are often requested.
A one-week budget
Round-trip flight from Douala / Yaoundé
540 000 FCFA–930 000 FCFANo direct flights from Cameroon. Most practical routings: Douala/Yaoundé → Dubai (Emirates), Doha (Qatar Airways) or Istanbul (Turkish Airlines) → Dhaka. Expect 16 to 24 hours of travel with one layover.
Indicative round-trip price: it varies widely by season, layover and how early you book.

What to do there
Boat safari in the Sundarbans (Bengal tigers)
The world's largest mangrove forest, a UNESCO site and refuge of the royal Bengal tiger. Two- to three-day cruises to spot crocodiles, deer, birds and, with luck, the tiger.
Cox's Bazar, the world's longest sandy beach
120 km of unbroken beach along the Bay of Bengal. Swimming, sunsets, the fish market and trips to nearby islands.
Explore Old Dhaka
A chaotic, captivating historic heart: Lalbagh Fort, the pink Ahsan Manzil palace, mosques, spice bazaars and rickshaw rides through the alleys.
The tea gardens of Srimangal
The tea capital: emerald-green hills, plantations as far as the eye can see and the famous seven-layer tea. Hike in Lawachara National Park.
Cruise the rivers by traditional boat
Bangladesh is a land of water: take a ferry or 'rocket steamer' on the delta's rivers to see river life and floating villages.
Taste the whirlwind of street food
From fuchka to biryani and street chai, street food is an experience in itself, flavorful and incredibly cheap (under USD 1 per dish).
