Algeria
The white Mediterranean city between desert and casbah
Algeria is Africa's largest country, a giant marrying the Mediterranean in the north and the immensity of the Sahara in the south. Algiers "the White", with its UNESCO-listed casbah tumbling toward the bay, its colonial buildings and bustling markets, offers a total change of scene while staying in Africa. For a Cameroonian traveller, it's a chance to discover another side of the continent: Berber, Arab and French heritage, refined cuisine and legendary hospitality. A few days are enough to taste Algiers and, for the more adventurous, venture toward the golden dunes of the Deep South.
